Christmas Gift Guide – Parents’ Edition

I know, I know what you will say: isn’t it a little bit too early to be thinking about Christmans presents? Well, the answer is yes – unless you are unlike me one of these super-organized people, so in that case – good for you, keep going!  However, I will be travelling starting next week and won’t have access to a laptop, so I kind of had to start planning a little bit in advance. And since I always feel like my parent are the hardest people to buy for since they wish for nothing really, I thought I shared my ideas with you. In case you are or will be facing the same dilemma – whether it’s for Christmas, Hanukka or a birthday.

Family Tree Print
I have this thing with trees. I was born in a region that is even called the “forest region”, so nothing means home to me as much as trees. Whenever I feel homesick, I look for the next national park with loads of wood, and I feel home again. Plus, what better represents the strong bonds between a family than the branches of a tree? So, as you might have guessed, I absolutely love this print by Allihopa. It looks fabulous, and it’s a nice little thing for your parents to put on their wall and look pretty without being too tacky.

Little House of Four

DIYs
My Mum is a horrible person to buy presents for. She does not want you to spend money on her, but she loves presents that show her that you actually thought about what to give and put in some effort. (I inherited that trait, so I sincerely apologize to anyone who ever had or has to get me a present). I feel like quite a few parents are like that, but unfortuately as a grown up it is no longer acceptable to scribble a house and a christmas tree on a piece of paper and present it together with a nice poem under the Christmas tree. Which is why I tend to spend quite a lot of time on Pinterest. This year’s inspiration comes from Little House of Four and A little Craft in Your Day. My main criteria is that the stuff looks pretty, is somewhat useful and easy to make (let’s face it, I’ll never be good at DIY), but make sure to chose your DIY based on things that your parents love, so all your effort does not go to waste.

Time
Time – the constant struggle. I am pretty sure no one spends as much time with their parents as we should. I feel like everyone should spend at least some time with their parents over the holidays. Of course it would be awesome to spend that time in person, but if that’s not possible, at least make sure your parents know you think about them with a letter, postcard, phonecall – or all of them. You can also give them some of your time as a gift – bake a cake with your mum, help your dad with some gardening (and yes I am using extreme stereotypes, but I cannot think of anything else at the moment, so sorry) or invite them over to some afternoon tea at your place. I am pretty sure they will not appreciate any other present as much as your time.

Chocolate, Socks and a Tie
If everything else fails, go back to the basics. When my brother and me were teenagers, we were not really creative when it came to presents, so that’s what our parents got. We took it so far that it became a tradition, so now they get disappointed if they don’t get their traditional Christmas chocolate. Although now I would get them another present in addition to these ones. Even if they are really cool socks.

Family Picture
At the very end, another one of the nostalgic presents. You could get your siblings together and have a nice photoshoot or get your friend’s good camera and take new pictures yourself. Or you could just use a photo you already have and put it in a pretty frame – and maybe even use your amazing DIY skills to make it extra special. Of course, you can also go fancy and put your pretty faces into a bit of glass like the one from 3D Laser Gifts. Just do whatever feels best for you – and double-check your picture, your sibing won’t appreciate having a horrible picture of himself hanging on the wall for the next five years, just because you only checked your own face – oopsie.

I hope this was helpful for everyone desperately thinking about what to give to your parents. And in case you’re not feeling the christmas spirit yet – put on some festive music and go to a shopping center, there Christmas is all around. ;)

xx, K (:

October Wishlist

I haven’t been shopping since what feels like forever, so I decided to spend my time procrastinating very productively and have a look at some of my favourite online shops. Sadly for my poor bank account, quite a few shops have some rather lovely pieces at the moment, which is why I had a pretty long wishlist within a very short time. And being the person I am, I want to share my favourite finds with you, just in case you were looking for some fashion inspiration. (:

Jumpsuit – Zara

I absolutely fell in love with this jumpsuit the minute I saw it. I have to admit, I am thinking about Christmas quite a lot already, and that would be the perfect piece to feel a little dressy during christmas season while not dying in the heat of summer. I feel like black and gold are just theses two colours which cannot be wrong for any kind of Christmas occasion, and if you pair it with some tights (my absolute winter staple) or some pretty boots you might even be able to pull it off during Christmas on the Northern hemisphere. But since it’s only October, I’ll now put away my chocolate Santa and stop talking about the festive season now. At least for this post.

Lace Face Mask – Topshop

Suitable for a holiday that’s a little bit earlier, I foud this mask when looking for something I would actually wear for Halloween. I am never very creative when it comes to costumes, and unlike basically everyone in my surrounding, I am also not good at applying make-up or drawing stuff on my face, so this mask is the perfect alternative for me. Paired with a sleek black outfit and ideally some statement heels I still have to find, this mask counts as “I have dressed up” without requiring too much time (which I don’t really have at them moment, damn you finals) to think about a proper costume. Awesome!

Paisley Shorts – River Island

River Island is one of the shops I always have a little peak into when walking past. It does not exist back in Austria, but I knew it from all the British bloggers/vloggers, so I had to have a look when I realized it exists in Australia. And indeed, they have some quite lovely stuff. I feel like these shorts can easily be dressed up or down depending on the occasion, and since I have way too many black clothes in my cupboard, these would go with basically everything and add a bit of colour to my outfits. Plus, I have to become a little bolder again when it comes to my style, which at the moment basically consists out of jeans, converse and shirts or t-shirts. Sad, I know.

Fedora Hat – Forever 21

I am as pale as one can be, so ever since moving to Oz I’ve been looking for a pretty hat to save my nose from being constantly burnt. I was quite surprised that the first one I really liked was from Forever 21. I’m not quite sure why but I never looked passed their jewellery in the accessories section, so I was blown away by the fact that they actually have a pretty amazing range of all different types of hats. This one has a perfectly-sized brim and a colour that does not attract all the heat in the atmosphere (you don’t know how hard it is to resist the urge to buy a black hat, but I just know that even I would feel hot with a black thing on my head). And it manages to do all that while still looking both professional and a little girly. I’m blown away.

Cat Plate – H&M Home

It would not be one of my wishlists if there was not at least one piece of homeware in it. I actually wrote a whole post like this last year just about homeware, so in case you were assuming that I like buying bits and bobs for my flat, you were right. One thing that’s new however is that this is something that can actually be used. Usually I buy deco-sheep or deco-poodles or deco-pandas or deco-… – I think you get the drill, I have a problem when it comes to animals and decoration – but this time it’s a plate, so something that actually serves a purpose other than collecting dust. Plus, there’s cats on there, so how could I possibly say no?

Runners – Nike

Let’s be honest here, I don’t really run. I tried it a few times last year, thought I might start to like it, and after that point it just got worse and worse and I never picked it up again. However, I am hoping to do some travelling that involves a fair share of hiking in the summer, and since I don’t really want to buy another pair of hiking boots (my current one is perfectly save home in Austria, of course) I thought that that would be the perfect excuse to finally get a new pair of running shoes. I feel like runners just have to be colourful, and these ones look like they were knitted which is something I had not seen before and love.

Bag – Mango

As I told you before, my wardrobe basically consists out of black on black – and some clothes in weird colours that just never seem to go with anything which I wear when I just can’t be bothered. In order to make my black outfits look a little bit more exciting, this bag would be an awesome addition to my wardrobe. Plus, I just realized it’s the perfect bag for the festive season – soo sorry for talking about it again, can you tell I’m a christmas person? But it’s red, looks like Father Christmas’ bag and has some gold stars on it. How did I not realize that before?

Shirtdress – Asos

I used to wear quite a lot of dresses, but ever since living in Vienna I switched back to wearing mostly jeans. I’m not quite sure why, but I definitely want to give dresses another chance and I think this one is a good starting point. I love wearing shirts, and this one is made out of denim so it’s somehow close to some jeans, right? Even if I’m just making up stuff now, I really like the style of this and I think it would be the perfect thing to just put on quickly to go to uni or work.

What’s currently on your wishlist? Let me know, I always love to get some good inspirations!

Thabto London Whale Vase

Windowshopping – Home Edition

Hello my dears,

Over the past weeks, me and my boyfriend have been refurbishing our flat. I love reorganizing my home, but at the moment I am at a point where I could scream as soon as I see a cardboard box. Therefore, I decided to focus on the details for a moment and look for some nice add-ons, and like this, hopefully find my love for redecorating again. I decided to share my search with you, and maybe offer you some inspiration. If you want to have a closer look at one of the items listed, the pictures are all linked to the homepages.

Parkins Interiors Mug © Parkins Interiors

For Fox’s Sake mug – Parkins Interiors
I love this mug! I think we all have those days when we just have this feeling that nothing works out in the way we wanted it to, so we just basically get annoyed at everything and everyone. During these days, you can grab this mug and immediately feel better – or does this awesome pun not make you smile? I also love the awesomely drawn fox, which additionally adds to the charm of this mug. And yes, I did just call a mug charming – please don’t judge me and my love for homeware. ;)

PazzleDIY Paper Lion Head © PazzleDIY

Paper Lion Head – PazzleDIY
I always think that mounted animals have a certain appeal. Although I would never, ever hang a dead animal anywhere in my apartment, house or anywhere on that matter – not only because I think that it’s wrong to kill animals for the sake of it , also because I could never get rid of the feeling that I am currently staring at a corpse, and that’s not exactly adding to a more homely feeling. However, a friend of mine has this golden metal deer head in his home, and I really like him, since I think that he (the deer) gives you the feeling of being in a cosy castle in the countryside. So when I was browsing the web looking for something similar, I found this lion and was just amazed by it. The only downside it has is the fact that you have to get crafty and assemble it yourself – and I’m not sure how that would turn out if I try.Thabto London Whale Vase

Whale vase – Thabto London
I just realized that there is a slight animal-theme to this post. This was not intentional, I just seem to currently have a thing for animal decoration items. Sorry. But now to the whale. I think the idea of having a whale vase is just pure genius. I love that the flowers look as if the whale is currently breathing, and his little tail fin is just the cutest thing ever. Additionally, it is perfect if you only have one or two flowers to show, and since I never was a fan of huge flower bouquets, the whale and me prove to be the perfect team. End of story.

Ikea Greenhouse

Greenhouse – Ikea
Finally, one item which does not represent an animal. I love this greenhouse. Ever since I saw it in Ikea, I knew that I had to have it. So other than all other items on this list, I actually already own it. But I just love it so much that I had to show it to you nonetheless. I think its slight industrial style goes very well my flat’s interior. I put four succulents in it, and they seem to thoroughly enjoy their life – so much, that I actually should replant one of them – which is quite incredible, considering that I got the plant two weeks ago and back then, it had more than enough space. Additionally to the succulents, I put some sand and little pieces of decoration in the greenhouse, and now it looks like a little desert in a box. I like it.

Zara Home Dishes

Tableware – Zara Home
Back to animals again. I should rename this post “How to make your house guests feel like they are visiting a zoo”. I swear this was not intentional. But I do love animals, also snails. And after this smooth transition, I can now tell you why I need plates with little, slimy friends on them. Currently, we have those old plates which have been owned by my boyfriend’s family before. They do the job, but are not really that lovely to look at. So I started searching for alternatives, and when I found these, I was over the moon. They are different than all the other dishes I saw, but still decent enough to not take away the show from all the marvellous food you are going to serve on them – beautiful.

H&M Home cushion

Cushion Cover – H&M Home
Rhino! As you might guess by now, I have a thing for cute little details. Here, I love the rhino’s awesome bow-tie, which makes this pillow case extra special. H&M Home currently has some amazing stuff in, but these cushions are my absolute favourite. They also have a zebra with a bow in its mane which is pretty fabulous, but for some reason, I feel more drawn to this brilliant rhino.

And that was it – our little excursion to the home ware zoo. I hope you liked it, and I’ll see you again next week!
